The Kalyra Care program provides day and overnight respite for carers of aged people with dementia or memory related disorders from the outer Southern Metropolitan area of Adelaide.

The program offers one day’s respite per week for up to 8 clients, with 4 able to stay overnight at a local bed & breakfast. The day program is planned to meet the individual needs of the care recipients (clients).

Day respite activities are varied and designed to meet the individual preferences of the current client group. They may include bus trips to local places of interest, shopping expeditions, special lunch outings, or joining in for an hour or two with the range of lifestyle activities offered within the residential care setting of the Kalyra Vale Aged Care Villas.

A coordinator is employed for the program with casual staff skilled in the care of clients with dementia or memory loss. Several volunteers also assist with the day time programs. Emergency capacity is available for day or overnight respite.

Fees for the Kalyra Care program are set in accordance with Commonwealth Government guidelines.

Funding for the Kalyra Care Program is provided jointly from the National Respite for Carers program funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Health and Ageing.
