At James Brown Memorial Trust we value the experience and knowledge our Volunteers bring to support the quality of life of our residents. Volunteers are vital in providing the range of lifestyle options for residents, by giving their time. This wonderful gift allows us to offer a diverse range of activities to suit individual interests and encourage independence of choice.
Volunteers support a range of activities

  • social programs, education, reminiscence, quiz, sing-along, indoor bowls, concerts, BBQs, special functions
  • word games, bingo, craft
  • music and entertainment programs
  • men’s group
  • reading newspapers and books
  • visiting and companionship
  • morning teas and/or meals
  • therapeutic massage and nail care
  • resident outings (bus trips)
  • accompanying residents to appointments and on walks
  • driving James Brown Memorial Trust mini buses (normal licence)
  • Kalyra Coffee Shop and Gift Shop
  • general maintenance - gardens, recycling, etc

As a James Brown Memorial Trust Volunteer, you can expect to:

  • be placed in a suitable role
  • receive appropriate supervision and guidance
  • be kept informed of policies, programmes and new developments
  • be treated as a valued member of a team, with a designated area to work
  • be regarded as a person with individuality and value
  • receive a complimentary meal if staying over a lunch period

Most importantly, you will receive personal satisfaction while helping others.

Essential Volunteer Pre-requisite

As Trust volunteers provide their support and care to mostly elderly people, it is a mandatory requirement that a current Police Clearance is obtained prior to volunteers commencing in their individual. In addition, volunteers born overseas, or those who have lived overseas for a period of time in their adult lives, must complete a simple Statutory Declaration. Our Volunteer Coordinators provide all necessary support to obtain and complete these documents at no cost to the volunteer.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • An opportunity exists for a volunteer in our Gift Shop on Wednesdays from 10.00-15.00.
